TP-Link MR-3020 as Wireless Console



First time to use MR3020 must be using a UTP cable and point the IP address is 192.168.0.254. AP can be access using PC with static IP 192.168.0.x. Or DHCP method.



Notice Firmware version are 3.17 and Hardware version are V1. Now days in market are come with Hardware version V3 whereby newly to OpenWRT.

Use Barrier Breaker version.
Consider using Chaos Calmer 15.05.1

System Tools à Firmware Upgrade à Browse and select files
Click Upgrade.


After upgrade, normally it will auto reboot by system.
Login Http://192.168.1.1/cgi-bin/luci (this IP normally change by system itself or dhcp)


Username : root
Password : root
System -> Software and check below packages INSTALLED.
1.       Make sure 2 software Packages installed:-          
a.       ACM
b.       SER2NET




Need to configure Root (Default won’t allow to use SSH) by System -> Administrator.
SSH to 192.168.1.1 TP Link AP device using Putty.
              Login: root
              Password: Passw0rd


Edit /Etc/ser2net.conf


Add or just delete OLD config inside /etc/ser2net.conf

Add /etc/rc.local

2006:telnet:0:/dev/ttyACM3:9600 1STOPBIT 8DATABITS  banner1

Then reboot.
To check system Boot # dmesg

To reset the TP-LINK TL-MR3020 to its default settings, you have to do the following steps:
  1. Turn on router.
  2. Press WPS/RESET button and hold for at least 10 seconds until WPS rapidly blinking
  3. Set your PC to IP 192.168.1.2 and telnet 192.168.1.1
  4. Issue the Command #mtd –r erase rootfs_data
  5. Device will reboot automatically.
  6. Open ssh to 192.168.1.1 with default root and password
SAFE mode Factory RESET


Under System -- > Software make sure below software are Installed.
1.       kmod-usb-acm
2.       kmod-usb-serial-pl2303
3.       kmod-usb2
4.       ser2net
